Individualized Approach

Dr. Samet has completed thousands of psychological, psychoeducational and neuropsychological evaluations with school-age children, adolescents, college students and adult clients.

Thirty Years of Experience

He specializes in diagnosing learning disabilities, including dyslexia, ADHD, language-based learning problems, autistic spectrum disorders, anxiety and mood disorders, and other social/emotional challenges. Dr. Samet believes strongly in creating a home/school partnership through cooperative advocacy, rather than creating an acrimonious relationship between parents and school districts.

Seeing the Family as a Team

As an experienced educational psychologist and CSE/504 chairperson, Dr. Samet helps families through the process of evaluating their child, identifying recommendations for support services, developing an intervention action plan, and advocating for school and/or private interventions and supports. He does not utilize a standard, “one size fits all” assessment process. Every diagnostic evaluation is custom tailored to answer the specific referral questions suggested by parent and teacher concerns, as well as the student’s school records.

Our Evaluation Process

  • Initial Meeting

Our initial meeting with the parent and student will be used to identify the specific areas of concern, collect historical information, review prior records and reports, and to identify the specific goals for the assessment. After this, a customized assessment plan will be developed. Dr. Samet will review the evaluation process and timeline. It is imperative that the student be included from the onset, to empower them to be part of the process.

  • In-Person Evaluation

The evaluation tests and procedures will be administered individually over 3-4 sessions, including collecting parent, teacher and self-report measures, as well as consulting with teachers/clinical staff, as needed.

  • Clinical Report

Following testing and data collection, a comprehensive report with be developed by Dr. Samet and shared initially with parents. After reviewing the draft report, parents will have an opportunity to help review and modify recommendations, and an action plan will be developed. A follow-up meeting with the student will be completed. Dr. Samet is available to help the family advocate for needed supports and services.
